“Aging Is Inevitable, But How We Get There Isn’t”

A birthday celebration with friends, family, food, conversation, good weather, gifts, and memories to help us mark another anniversary as we look forward to many more such events.

The years add up

When we are young, we look forward to each birthday because it unlocks new opportunities. At that next age we will be eligible to do something we couldn’t until then – whether it’s a well-known regulation or just a family rule.

Then, after a few more birthdays, we look back and wonder how those years could have passed so quickly.

One thing is certain. As long as we live, the days will continue to come and go without any say from us in how that happens – only in the way we respond to each new opportunity and use the time given to us.

All of us are getting older

There is no denying aging. Each day is a little closer to that next birthday. Early in life, those birthdays are something we look forward to celebrating. The older we get, however, those birthdays may be taken more in stride, special but not unlike most any other day.

How we view the passage of time is important, however. While the actual number of candles on our birthday cake may not signify anything special as in being able to qualify for an age-regulated registration or activity, it is still an accomplishment.

Attitude is key

While all of us are getting older, and we really can’t control that, we can make a difference in how we respond to or embrace the passage of time. We can be optimistic. We can anticipate how new opportunities will appear. We can look forward to meeting new people and continuing relationships with people we already know.

If we find that our homes need a little TLC to help manage our abilities, or we just want a more appealing interior environment, that can be done. It doesn’t have to be expensive to make a change.

We need to stay active, mentally and physically, as we age to help us be in the best form possible. A good attitude is a major factor in aging well. Family get-togethers, saying hello to a neighbor, going for a walk (short ones are fine), belonging to an organization, phone calls, and other ways of staying connected are great for our attitude and our overall health.
