“Do The CAPS Classes Need To Be Taken In Order?

An aging in place couple in their long-term home of choice, enjoying their home, their computer, and each other’s company as they complete some of their daily tasks in a safe and enjoyable way.

Three Days For Three Classes

The Certified Aging In Place Specialist (CAPS) designation is achieved by completing three classes. So, the question many people have is can the classes just be taken without observing the numerical order of them?

The technical answer is that they can be completed in any order. The simple answer is the same. However, the most correct answer for knowledge, application, and overall value, is that they should be completed in numerical sequence – I, II, and then III.

There is solid material in each about how people age, particularly with their sensory, cognitive, and mobilty changes, along with ways to assess or evaluate those changes and determine how to implement effective solutions or changes for them.

Why not just a one-day class?

Maybe you are wondering why it takes three days and why the course couldn’t be completed in a single session. Maybe it could, but what would we omit to condense the material into a single day? There is that much material to address!  Also, people approach this certification from various backgrounds, arges, experience levels, and geography. To be fair to all experience levels, the class needs to be approached with reasonable timing – allowing for instruction, sharing of experiences, and reflection.

This course is a certification rather than a seminar, webinar, or anything designed to briefly cover the topic  When you are finished with the three days, there is much more learning and application to accomplish. This is just the first step.

It could have been even more days

The material presented in the three days is just a great beginning. There is so much more to discover and apply. Depending on our life experiences, professional background, aspirations, and other factors guiding us to launch or grow a business addressing the safety and mobility needs of people we want to help, there is so much more to learn and accomplish. There could be even more classes or laboratory sessions.

The three CAPS classes provide a great introduction to this service-oriented business, but there is much remaining to learn and accomplish as we experience the marketplace and the needs of individuals we encounter.

For an introduction to the topics and skills covered by this umbrella, the current three-day concept seems to be a good way to begin.
