“Belonging To ‘Age Safe America’ Is Worth Considering As You Build Your CAPS Business”

If you’re not familiar with an aging in place advocacy organization called “Age Safe America,” it’s time you knew a little bit about it and my involvement with it. I suggest you become aware of it and that you seriously consider joining it as an aging in place professional. Contact me for information about membership.

As we prepare for 2017, this is something good that we can do for our businesses and for our clients – existing and potential. We can add this to our business and marketing plan. There is a very attractive member logo that can be displayed as well.

Age Safe America is a national membership and advocacy organization based in Sarasota, Florida, whose members are committed to helping families and individuals determine the steps necessary to maximize both their personal safety and their independence as they continue to live and function successfully in their homes. This membership is consistent with the CAPS designation program and is a nice complement to it.

The organization notes that their members provide consulting services, support and certification to entrepreneurs and businesses who assist families, older adults, and the disabled to successfully “age safe at home.”

There are two levels of membership available. The Business Membership is open to anyone who successfully applies. The Advisor Member program is for people who complete an advanced program that includes coaching, assessment training, and help in launching an aging-in-place consulting business.

Advisor Members provide assessments, recommendations, and solutions for fall prevention, home safety, and crime prevention to help older adults enjoy the comfort, freedom, and independence that enables them to “age safe at home.”

Anyone who already is CAPS trained would find this membership a good addition to their profile, and anyone seeking to begin a consulting business offering assessments – whether formally trained in that area or not as part of your current profession – would find the training program invaluable.

Recently, I was named to the Advisory Team and the announcement read in part “Steve brings a wealth of industry knowledge along with a unique perspective on Universal Design to the Age Safe management team.” This was written by Steven Bailey, Founder and Managing Director for Age Safe America.

The announcement goes on to mention that successfully aging in place requires older adults and families to do simple things to prevent falls around the home, including modifications to help provide assistance with daily living, deter injuries, and save lives.

In addition to attaining your CAPS designation or finishing it in 2017 if you still have coursework to complete (contact me or visit my website for a schedule of classes in 2017 either in Florida or elsewhere), belonging to supportive organizations such as Age Safe America would be beneficial for marketing and educational purposes.

I look forward to discussing this opportunity with you and helping you with your membership application. Please get in touch with me for a special link to use.

The coming year should afford all of us tremendous opportunities, and this is a way to help market ourselves and acquire additional knowledge in the process.
