Too short of notice? Understandable. There are more CAPS classes scheduled for South Florida in the next 90 days, and one scheduled in Chicago in February -so far. There will be more added as the calendar continues to come together.
CAPS continues to be the premier designation for people working in the aging in place industry. There are other designations, but CAPS is the oldest and the most widely recognized. Consumers are now requesting CAPS trained contractors and home assessment professionals.
There are 7 organizations in the US, not counting those in Canada, that are promoting the CAPS designation to their members, affiliates, and consumers. These are the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders), AARP (now just AARP but formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons), AIA (American Institute of Architects, NKBA (National Kitchen & Bath Association and organizer of the annual KBIS conference to be held jointly with NAHB’s IBS for the 4th consecutive year), ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association), and APTA (American Physical Therapy Association). That’s powerful!
Regardless of other designations or training you might hold or have, or that you want to pursue, the CAPS is one that should be at the top of your list for obtaining.
Since the program launched in 2002, there have been two editions of the textbooks for each class, and a third is in the review and preparation stage currently for CAPS I and CAPS II. A brand new CAPS III class – different from the current Business Management class as the third course – is promised for late in the year.
Maybe it’s been a while since you took your training and you either would like a refresher or you set it aside and didn’t do anything with it – until now. This would be a great time to do the classes again and get recertified.
In addition to the CAPS classes being held this coming week, and not counting the Universal Design/Build classes which also are being scheduled, for as soon as January 19-20 in West Palm Beach, other CAPS classes conducted by Steve Hoffacker are scheduled for January 30-February 1 in West Palm Beach, January 13-15 in Deerfield Beach, February 21-23 in Chicago, February 27-March 1 in West Palm Beach, March 15-17 in Deerfield Beach, and March 27-29 in West Palm Beach.
This only goes through the first quarter, and there are still other dates and locations being reviewed for these first three months of 2017. The rest of the year will have classes in Ohio, Wisconsin, Missouri, Massachusetts, and Tennessee, among other sites.
